Rewritelyapp exists because the system we built around academic writing, admissions essays, journal submissions, scholarship applications, rewards a kind of writing most people aren’t taught how to do. We’re trying to fix that for the people who can’t afford a $3,000 editor.
I grew up in Casablanca, applied to graduate school in three different countries, and watched friends with stronger CVs than mine get rejected because their personal statements opened with “In today’s rapidly evolving world…” That sentence is a cultural artifact, not a personal failing, it’s what most non-native English speakers are taught is ‘academic’.
I built the first version of Rewritelyapp the week after my own first round of rejections. The product you’re reading about now is the fourth rebuild, what changed over three years is that I stopped trying to make a paraphrase tool and started studying what admissions reviewers actually reward. The rubric on our personal statement page is the entire methodology. There’s nothing else hidden.
Rewritelyapp is a small team today. No outside investors. No "hypergrowth" ambitions. The plan is to stay small enough to answer support emails personally and to keep the product affordable for students applying from Lagos and Cairo as much as Boston and London.

Saying what we won’t do is more useful than saying what we will. The won’ts are the harder commitments.
